While previous reports have indicated that New York Knicks power forward Amare Stoudemire has wanted to remain a Knick, newer reports have said the former Phoenix Suns star is considering asking for a buyout over the All-Star break.
The buyout would have make Stoudemire free agent with and any team eligible to sign him.
The Dallas Mavericks are the front runners in the race for Stoudemire’s services, if he ultimately does become a free agent. The Mavericks are currently weak at power forward, aside from team leader Dirk Nowitzki. “STAT” could be a perfect fit off the bench.
Stoudemire is averaging 12.2 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game as a reserve this year. While the Knicks should try to trade him, it will be difficult to get a deal done due to his massive contract that expires this summer.
