According to Baseball America, the New York Yankees have signed former University of Connecticut LHP Anthony Marzi to a minor league contract.
Marzi, a rookie free agent, went undrafted after both his junior and senior seasons. At UConn, he posted a career 3.13 ERA with 217 strikeouts over the course of 299 innings pitched.
In January, Marzi, along with about 40 other prospects worked out for multiple teams in Port Chester, New York. The Tampa Bay Rays were reportedly also interested in signing the left-hander, as both the Rays and the Yankees had scheduled throwing sessions with him for February, but the Yankees offered Marzi a contract.
Marzi will now go to Tampa to work out at the team’s minor league facilities before camp opens.
