The Struggles of St. Louis

The future Hall of Fame winger, Martin St. Louis has gone cold as of late during the last thirteen games. A vital asset in their Cup run last year has hit a scoring slump that has left the thirty nine year old winger trying to find his game again. It is not the first time he has hit a cold spot in his season, but the team will need him now more than ever if they want to continue to push towards playing in the spring post season.

After only scoring one goal in his first ten games, St. Louis definitely rebounded and found the scoring touch. In fifty two games this season, he has fourteen goals and thirty seven points. While he may get on the scoring sheet with an assist, it is his goal scoring that will be needed, and needed immediately. Marty knows that he must not get frustrated, but as every player knows, that can be difficult. He wants to score and help his team win, and when you try to do too much, a player makes mistakes and grips the stick a little too hard.

As a veteran player, St. Louis understands that he must simply his game and just focus on the basics. It is not as if he is giving a lackluster effort either. St. Louis is one of those dedicated players who will give it their all on the ice every night and play with their heart on their sleeve. He is a true leader on and off the ice.

Maybe he is putting too much pressure on himself, and even as experienced as he may be, Marty is only human. Could the long season grind finally be catching up the the thirty nine year old? It is quite possible.

Whatever the issue may be, Marty will snap out of it soon. He doesn’t need to accumulate goals all at once, but having be more consistent in the final stretch will go a long way for the Blueshirts. Having him bury some goals will help take pressure off of other top players like Rick Nash, Derek Stepan, and even Derick Brassard. The Rangers will undoubtedly survive the lengthy absence of the Henrik Lundqvist with Cam Talbot, but Talbot will need help from his veteran players. With St. Louis stepping up and contributing on a nightly basis again will help Talbot and the team win games and give them confidence going into the post season.

The team needs the hero within Martin St. Louis to find his game again and find it as soon as possible.
