Heading into the final year of his contract, the New York Giants are working on an extension to keep Tom Coughlin around for another year.
The Giants have done this sort of thing many times with their coaches. They extend their contracts to keep them from becoming a “lame duck”- or a coach in the final year of their contract.
Despite this, it does not mean TC is safe if the Giants go another year without a playoff berth, and Coughlin is well aware of this.
“There’s 32 guys that coach one year at a time, and that’s the way it is,” Coughlin said. “I don’t care how many years you’ve got on your contract.”
Coughlin confirmed the talks today.
I think that part of it’s underway,” Coughlin said. “Hopefully shortly you’ll have some information about that. I don’t think it’s any big mystery. You don’t have to be overly concerned about anything secretive. There’s nothing to it.”
