Giants Cut J.D. Walton

After one season in New York where he started all 16 games, the New York Giants have released center J.D. Walton.

Walton’s cutting will clear approximately $3 million in cap space for the Giants, who after franchising Jason Pierre-Paul for upwards of $14 million, will need as much cap space as possible.

Walton was signed to a two-year contract last offseason to replace the ineffective David Bass at center. The unproven Walton was just mediocre at the position, resulting in this move by Jerry Reese.

Second year player Weston Richburg is expected to start at center next season, his natural position, after playing guard this season.
