While covering first base today in a spring training game vs the Boston Red Sox, Yankees pitcher Chris Capuano pulled up, suffering a right quad strain. Even worse, he is expected to land on the disabled list to start the season in April.
Capuano was the Yankees leading candidate to earn the number 5 rotation spot until Ivan Nova fully recovers from his Tommy John surgery.
It now appears that Adam Warren will be the Yankees number 5 starter to open the season. He’s given up just 1 run in 5 spring training innings pitched. Bryan Mitchell and Esmil Rodgers are also in the mix.
Capuano went 3-4 with a 4.35 ERA, starting 12 and coming in relief in 28 games.
