Giants Select DE Owa Odighizuwa With 74th Pick

After going with an offensive lineman and safety in the first two rounds, the Giants are continuing to draft to need. With their sole third round pick, the New York Giants have selected DE Owa Odighizuwa out of UCLA.

Odighizuwa slid a bit in this draft, landing right in the Giants laps. He was a projected late first to early second round selection, and is ranked as the fifth best DE in this draft.

He missed all of 2013 with hip surgery and had minimal playing time from 2011-2012. He broke out in 2014, emerging as one of the best PAC-12 defensive players, being able to shut down opposing running backs with his speed and strength.

He may be just a situational player though, as he simply isn’t very talented when rushing the passer. He isn’t bad per se, but just isn’t very skilled.

Him, Damatre Moore, and Jason Pierre-Paul are three very young athletes who could form a deadly trio on the defensive line for years to come. This was a solid pick by the G-Men.
