The New York Yankees have suffered yet another blow to their pitching staff. Starting pitcher Chase Whitley will undergo Tommy John surgery, ending his season immediately.
Whitley suffered a partially torn UCL in a start vs Tampa on Thursday, lasting just 1.2 innings. The original hope was recovery without Tommy John, but unfortunately that was not the case.
Whitley has made four starts this season, pitching 19.1 innings to a 4.19 ERA.
Chris Capuano has taken over his spot in the rotation, and should remain until Ivan Nova or Masahiro Tanaka return sometime this summer.
