Despite the New York Yankees combination of Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller finishing games and effectively ending them from the eighth inning, the Yankees added reliever Sergio Santos to their bullpen.
Santos was signed on a minor-league deal and will start in Double-A, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports said.
Santos, 31, played 12 games for the Dodgers this season posting a 4.73 ERA. During that time he allowed two home runs and 13 hits, but recorded 13 striekouts.
Despite his recent struggles Santos holds the record for 25 consecutive scoreless appearances on the road to start a season when he pitched for the Chicago White Sox during the 2011 season. Mariano Rivera owned the record since 2005.
Last season, due to injury, he was inserted into a closer’s role, but lost the job a month into the season.
A power reliever his four-seam fastball reaches 97 MPH and contrasts Miller by virtue of the fact that he throws right handed while Miller throws left handed.
