At 6’2″, 255 lbs, Tony Johnson played two seasons at Louisiana Tech after he transferred over from Mississippi Community College.
At Mississippi Community College he had a team leading 38 tackles in six games played in 2012 after registering 80 tackles in nine games the season before. With the Bulldogs he played in 24 games and recorded 92 tackles (52 solo), 2.5 sacks, seven tackles for losses, an interception and a fumble recovery.
Johnson played both linebacker and fullback at Louisiana Tech, but looks to make a career for himself in the NFL as a linebacker.
He started two games with the Bulldogs, but preformed primarily as a role player during his time with the team. Johnson is a reasonably athletic player with a high football IQ. He posted average numbers during his pro day with a 4.81 second forty yard dash and 17 reps on the 225 lbs bench press.
Johnson comes in as a long shot to make the Giants final 53-man roster, but good be in the mix for a practice squad spot should he preform well in the preseason. His signing comes on the heels of the Giants waiving linebacker Ryan Jones.
