After starting the season off as a Met, Kirk Nieuwenhuis will now return to the Big Apple.
Nieuwenhuis was placed on waivers by the Angels, the team the Mets traded him to a month ago, and subsequently claimed by New York.
The outfielder was traded to LA after a .079 (3-38) slump to start the year off in Queens. The Mets gave him up for next to nothing, acquiring cash in return.
Things haven’t been much better for Nieuwenhuis in Anaheim, as he’s hit just 3-22 in ten games.
It’s unknown if the 27 year old will either report to the Mets major league roster or play in triple A, but Adam Rubin has said he believes Nieuwenhuis will replace Darrell Ceciliani on the major league roster. Cecillani is hitting .241 off the bench this season
Kirk is a career .230 hitter.
