According to Real GM, the Brooklyn Nets are showing interesting in reigning Sixth Man of the Year winner Lou Williams. Williams is an unrestricted free agent and while he reportedly welcomes a return to Toronto, the Nets along with the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and the Sacramento Kings are showing interest in Williams.
Williams is a gifted scorer off the bench, which is why he took home Sixth-Man of the Year honors. On the season Williams averaged 15.5 ppg, 1.9 rpg and 2.1 apg on 40 FG% and 34 3PT%.
While he is quite diminutive for a shooting guard a 6’1, 175 pounds make no mistake that Williams is not a point guard, he is a scorer.
The Georgia native has the ability to make tough shots, but he doesn’t always make them hence the poor field goal percentage. Williams tends to shoot whether or not he is open and that can hurt/harm his team. There are points though, as there were last season where Williams can singlehandedly take over a game and will his team to victory.
In the video above, you can see Williams demolishing the Nets defense with ease. He hit tough shots and drew countless fouls. He is a strong free throw shooter at 86% and gets to the line frequently with about 5 free throws attempts per game last season.
Defensively due to his size, Williams is quite poor and should be matched up against the weaker of the backcourt players on the opposing team.
Looking at the Nets roster as of right now, there is no clear candidate for starting shooting guard. Markel Brown manned the role for the last stretch of the season, but Bojan Bogdanovic also played there and Joe Johnson can lineup at the 2 as well.
Williams would likely continue to come off the bench in Brooklyn and bring some fire to the reserves, which was needed at point last season.
However it not likely that Brooklyn will land Williams as frankly they aren’t that attractive of a destination and they can’t offer the money other teams, namely the Knicks and Lakers can. Therefore, don’t expect to see Williams donning a Nets uniform next season, although it would be a site many fans would be excited to see.
