In expected news, Brooklyn Nets forward Thaddeus Young has officially opted out of the final year of his contract to become an unrestricted free agent.
Young was set to make just under 10 million for one season, but instead it appears Young will be looking for a long term deal. He has said he wants to remain a Net, and Nets GM Billy King has said the same. The mutual interest should keep Young a Net.
Thad Young was acquired at the trade deadline in a surprising move, in which the Nets traded veteran power forward Kevin Garnett to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Young. The 26 year old was excellent in 28 games as a Net, scoring 13.8 PPG on 50% shooting and grabbing 5.9 RPG.
