In their third transaction of the night, the New York Knicks have acquired Spanish center Guillermo Hernangomez of the Spanish league team Sevilla. In exchange, the Knicks have given the Sixers cash considerations as well as two future second round picks.
Hernangomez was the opposite big man starting next to the Knicks lottery pick Kristaps Porzingis. Hernangomez was originally selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 35th pick in the draft, but quickly flipped him to New York. This could be a very wise move for New York, as they can save cap room while they stash him overseas.
The 21 year old has continued to improve his game, averaging 10 PPG and 6 RPG for Sevilla. He is an average offensive weapon, but he has potential to dominate the glass. He is 6’11.
“Willy” as he is nicknamed, will not report to the Knicks this season but he could be a solid bench option for the team in the near future.
