After trading backup goaltender Cam Talbot earlier today, the New York Rangers struck a deal with the Chicago Blackhawks to acquire a new backup to Henrik Lundqvist. Antti Raanta was acquired in exchange for AHL forward Ryan Haggerty.
Raanta had a 1.89 GAA and a .936 save percentage in 14 games this past season. His role was eventually replaced by Scott Darling who was the teams backup netminder during their playoff run.
The Finnish goalie was praised for his positive locker room presence, and should be a solid backup goalie for New York next season.
The Rangers did lose Ryan Haggetry, who put up 33 points for the Hartford Wolfpack last season.
