The New York Knicks were in need of a backup center, and they got their wishes today. The Knicks completed a sign and trade with the Orlando Magic to acquire center Kyle O’Quinn. He has been signed to a four-year deal worth $16 million. It is currently unknown who they gave up in the sign and trade.
O’Quinn is just 25 years old, and has spent the entirety of his three season career as a member of the Orlando Magic. He averaged 5.8 PPG and 3.9 RPG on 49.2% shooting. He has a three point shot, although it is inconsistent. He converted 27.8% from deep last season.
The signing of O’Quinn should fill the need for a backup big man. With Robin Lopez and Derrick Williams being signed yesterday, the Knicks have totally revamped their front court.
The Knicks will be sending cash as well as the right to swap second round picks with the Magic in 2019.
