The Brooklyn Nets and F/C Willie Reed have agreed to a one-year, $500k deal according to Shams Charania of RealGM.
For those who do not know, Reed signed with the Nets on September 25, 2014 but was placed on waivers less than a month later on October 23.
Reed is currently playing with the Miami Heat’s summer league team. On July 5, Reed squared off with the Nets and had a dominant first half, totaling 9 points and 6 rebounds at the half. The St. Louis product is averaging 13.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and nearly 2 blocks per game while shooting 60% from the floor.
Reed will join the Nets’ summer league team in Las Vegas according to Rod Boone, of Newsday.
Last season, Reed played for both the Iowa Energy and Grand Rapids Drive. Reed was named a D-League All-Star while also being named to the All-NBA D-League First Team and the NBA D-League All-Defensive First Team.
The deal is reportedly “mostly guaranteed” which leaves the Nets at 14 guaranteed contracts, allowing room for just one more.
Reed is a workhorse and will hustle under the block. While his game outside of the paint is lackadaisical, the 25-year-old will give it his all for Brooklyn. He is a fantastic defender, but possesses a limited offensive game.
