New York City FC had two players, David Villa and Frank Lampard, named to the MLS Fan XI.
The full XI is listed below.
Goalkeeper: Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake)
Defenders: Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), DaMarcus Beasley (Houston Dynamo)
Midfielders: Kaká (Orlando City), Michael Bradley (Toronto), Benny Feilhaber (Sporting Kansas City), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)
Attackers: David Villa (New York City), Clint Dempsey (Seattle) Obafemi Martins (Seattle)
Commissioner’s Picks (Chosen by MLS Commissioner Don Garber): Steven Gerrard (LA Galaxy), Frank Lampard (New York City)
The XI was chosen using votes from fans on social media. However, Obafemi Martins made it on the squad due to the fact the most goals on FIFA 15 were scored with him during a specific period.
Lampard and Steven Gerrard were chosen by MLS Commissioner Don Garber, likely to expand international interest.
It is important to note that this is not a guarantee that Villa will make the MLS All-Star game roster that will face off against Tottenham Hotspur. As a commissioner pick, Lampard is guaranteed a spot. The official All-Star game roster is selected by Colorado Rapids and MLS All-Star coach Pablo Mastroeni and will be announced on July 18.
After Villa’s strong season, where he has recorded 10 goals and 3 assists, expect Villa to be on the All-Star roster alongside Lampard.
