Newly appointed General Manger, Jeff Gorton, continued his resigning spree today by agreeing to terms with 25 year old restricted free-agent defenseman, Mat Bodie.
The 6 foot, 175 pound blueliner played all four years at Union College before joining the Rangers organization. During his time at Union, Bodie was quite the standout player. He was team captain for two seasons, and upon graduation, he was the school’s all time leader in points by a defenseman, leader in assists and ranked fourth in points. After his team won the NCAA championship, on April 15, 2014, Bodie signed an entry-level contract as an undrafted free agent.
Once he began his professional career, Bodie played in 75 games with the Hartford Wolfpack last season. He recorded 5 goals and 32 points and had a +/- of +11. As a rookie, he tied for third in assists and ranked second among defenseman on the team in points. Bodie also tied for first in AHL rookie defenseman points.
He was even an important factor during the playoffs for the Wolfpack as well. In the 15 games he played, Bodie had 3 goals and 7 points. Those 3 goals tied him in for first goals among rookie defenseman.
