It was recently announced that New York Red Bulls midfielder Dax McCarty would be taking New York City FC midfielder Frank Lampard’s place in the 2015 MLS All-Star Game due to an injury Lampard sustained two weeks ago.
Originally, Lampard was chosen as one of two Commissioner’s Picks by the MLS Commissioner Don Garber, however due to the injuries Lampard currently is facing Garber has changed his pick to McCarty.
McCarty has been a rock in the Red Bull’s midfield for the entirety of the season. He has played in 18 of the 19 league matches that the Red Bulls have played in this season – starting all of those matches – and in those games has tallied an impressive five assists. Additionally, according to Opta Sports, McCarty has completed just over 1000 passes this season in the MLS, ranked at second most in the whole league.
The midfielder’s impressive showing this season both offensively and defensively has many people believing that he deserves a US Men’s National Team call up at some point in the near future. Hopefully this All-Star team selection will give McCarty the stage that he needs to prove his worth to Jurgen Klinsmann and the rest of the USMNT staff.
