In preparation for the Olympics in Rio next summer, the United States will be holding a minicamp in which thirty-four players will be attending. One of those is Knicks’ centrepiece, Carmelo Anthony.
Another last played in the 2015 NBA All-Star game in late February, before closing up shop for the remainder of the season due to a nagging knee injury which ultimately required surgery. In 40 games for New York last season, Anthony averaged 24.2 points per game, 6.6 rebounds per game, 3.1 assists per game and 1 steal per game
The 31-year-old has expressed interest in being a part of the Olympic team next year. Although Anthony has competed in the previous three Olympics, which netted him one bronze and two gold medals, there is no guarantee that he’ll be in Brazil next summer. There are many players rising though the ranks of USA basketball and you also have to account for the rookies who have just entered the league.
The mini-camp will be held in Las Vegas from August 11th through to August 13th.
This is a very positive sign from a New York Knicks perspective. Although Anthony will not be competing/participating in every drill, he will be on the floor playing against other NBA players and taking contact. It shows to the public that his rehab is on, if not ahead, of schedule
